Yes it does because it being a childs toy means that your aimed market cannot actually afford the game. Children tend not to have an income; you are relying on gift giving. The PS2 was not competiting with the PS3. The Wii U is competiting with the PS3/360 until it manages to seperate itself from the 7th gen with an 8th gen game e.g. what PGR3 was for the 360.
I'm not ignorant to gaming cycles; please keep such unsubstantiated comments to yourself as they merely look personal rather then objective. What has been shown is your lack of understanding where the Wii U resides within this market as of current.

1. ''a child toy means that your aimed market cannot actually afford the game'' - The Skylander's and Pokémon franchise is geared towards a younger crowd and yet the franchise has crossed the billion dollar revenue. I fail to see your argument, they shift hardware.
2. ''the Wii U is competing with the PS3/360 until it manages to seperate itself from the 7th gen with an 8th gen game'' - That exactly is the point of gaming cycles... Older gen will always outsell the newer gen in the first year until proven otherwise (content, games, etc.). PS2 outsold Xbox 360 and PS3 within first year on market. Again, I fail to see your point on Wii U launch being a failure despite outselling the Xbox 360 and PS3 (including Europe) launch period in times where a worldwide recession did not affect people's spending habits.

Skylander's has sold very, very little. Pokemon is the only exception however that is not a child's game necessarily due to the complex mechanics behind the game meaning it's audience isn't as limited as Lego.
Saying kids games shift hardware is simply untrue - where are your figures?
No you fail to understand what I am saying. The 360 was not directly competiting against the PS2 as the 360 clearly offered the next gen in gaming. The Wii U has yet to show us an 8th generation game, therefore it is currently seen as a 7th gen console competing against other 7th gen consoles. Until the Wii U actually seperates itself as an 8th gen console, its sales are going to be directly compared against the PS3 and 360.
I never said the launch was a failure; don't make stuff up. Also comparing the Wii U sales to sales that occured 6-7 years ago is rediculous due to economic and market differences.

Honestly, I am done here. We can agree to disagree. However, your point of 360 offering next-gen gaming off the bat is simply not true. Next-gen gaming was apparent when Gears of War was released, a year following the Xbox 360 release.
|
So you're saying that PGR3 didn't seem to be a next-gen game on launch day? That's just nonsense. It was clearly beyond anything on the xbox or PS2:
Also I'm going to presume when you looked up the Skylander game sales you realised you didn't really have a leg to stand on.

I don't mind having an intelligent conversation with someone, but now you are really pushing it. Skylanders business model is built upon selling exclusive content through toys. As a result, one does not need to sell an abudance of software to make the business transaction a profitable one. Consequently, your argument of the game not selling well does not equate succes once again only personifies your ignorance. It's a BILLION dollar franchise, any gaming company would kill to have that business model.
