Wii U is not doomed. But it won't be as big as the Wii. Atleast at that price. It had a ok start compared to the Wii. But Wii was heavyly supply constraint and it would have sold way more during the first year if there was more stock. There is no hype for the Wii U whatsoever. Also its doing better than 360/PS3 is not saying much.

Lets assume the 360/PS3 would have realesed 50 bucks more expensive than the previous gen like Wii U did. Christmas 2005/6 PS3 is 199 and 360 too. Nobody would have bought alast gen console. The Wii Us performance showed clearly that atm the customers are not willing to shell out 50 bucks more for a next gen console. That points to one thing. Nintendo stopped playing the same game asthe rest of the videogame industry. They created a sub market only they can cater to and they will never die. PS3/360 were no alternative to Wii and appearently Wii U is no alternative to 360/PS3 too.

The people are just dissapointed because as of this point it looks like the Wii U will not sell to the non gamers and that they repeat the Wii success again is unlikely it just sells to the people who want zo play videogames (obviously). The piece of the pie for Nintendo will shrink and its very unlikely Nintendo will get a piece of the more traditional market that is big enough to compensate for the loss of the crowd who was not buying the Wii to play with it.they are not interested in Mario/Zelda/Metroid/Graphics or another screen to look on. Wii U will be succesful but if MS or Sony manage to kill each other the surviving party will dominate the Wii U. Nintendo managed to resorb the handheld console market. But graphics do actually matter for alot of people. The Controller is nice but not enough for the people to acknowledge the Wii U as next gen. Those might be just 25 Million people but ghey are the ones who decide the success of a console and spend alot of money on gaming. And if the graphic is good enough to peak their interest for a while they go out and buy it and technically advanced/different titles. Which will lead to the titles being to much to handle for previous hardware. Thus not realising on previous consoles but then the 125 Million other people see those games and want ghem too maybe the graphics are not enough for them to upgrade but new game experiences only available on next gen due to the 25 Million graphic obsessed people are. Those people do have often PC or wander of to PC but they also are interested in consoles due to the many exclusives which will come in decent graphics without making your eyes bleed in the first years.

This gen became unplayable for me since I bought my 65 inch plasma last year. I am not even a big graphics fetishist but the standards slowly rise the more high quality content you see. The Wii U has too bad graphics for me to even consider using it as my main console for six years. My limited time for gaming makes it impossible to just play the few titles I have tosee right away. I bought a Wii 4 weeks ago with the titles I think must be played.

NSMBWii Mario galaxy 2 Zelda SS Metroid Prime 3 Xenoblade/Monsterhunter Tri. Goldeneye Wii which I also bought was already unplayable for me so I gave it away.

I wont play any more games on the HD consoles except Tlou abd Beyond two Souls GTA 5 I will buy for PCor next gen I dont want to waste the game with being distractet by jaggies low res and rfamerateissues in hectic scenes. Clean and good graphic greatly influences the believability of a game world and unless its drawn or doesn't require detailed/realistic graphics it greatly influences how serious I take the game. Clean graphics (1080p no jaggies and stable framerate) was the least I expected from Nintendo but his won't happen sadly. Even though Nintendo had no reason to make it that way. Mid class cards can easily pull of any Console graphic with this image quality cheap and energy saving.

tl;dr:

Nintendo is indestructible and unique they always sell to a certain crowd but the Wii U lacks the non gamer support and failed to attract people like me with huge TVs and certain requirements for a new console like 1080p and less jaggies with stable framerates. Thus unlikely to be an alternative for the graphics concious crowd.

This and the preprogrammed lack of 3rd party Titles will result into the non nintendo mass following to PS4/720 instead of buying a Wii U. Which inturn makes a repeat of the market domination the Wii had at first very unlikely at this time.
