the good/evil, heaven and hell, God vs Satan concept always seemed a tad ....broken to me. When you look at the story of Lucifer, something is surely missing. Why would someone with close to (even equal to?) god's inteligence want to be "evil" for no other reason but? Rule of any good super villain, and Satan being the biggest of all, is that a good one does not think him/itself inherently evil and has a perceived purpose for their actions.
Lucifer was Satan's name as an Angel. He was known to be the most beautiful and powerful of all of them. He was said to be God's favorite and quite possibly the prototype for Jesus. Lucifer is the only angel with inherent free will supposedly, or at least was aware of his sense of being unlike the others. He supposedly became furious with God once Man was created with free will to do as they please....
This is where it gets strange for me. I kind of.....agree with where Lucifer is coming from at this point. Think about it. Would you rather spend every waking moment of your life devoted to pampering an omnipotent being or be able to choose your fate as you see fit? The whole idea that man is suppose to choose a life of forever worshiping God seems like a very vain human characteristic for a God to force upon man in the first place. What does an all powerful god truly need in human offerings and ritual chanting for anything other than inflating its ego?
This whole story feels fairly similar to real life Parent and Child conflicts. There are actually people in the world who have children simply as cheap labor or slaves if you will. They have no other desire for them except to fullfill that need. So when that child grows up, becomes aware that there is more to life than serving their parents, they long to go out and find something of their own. The Parent, who is now furious that something they created has the nerve to rebel against them, now disowns the child in a fit of rage.
Just because someone gives you life....do you owe it your total allegiance? Not to say you do not respect where you came from, just that is it necessary for your will to be forever second to theirs due to this reality.
Another facet of the story that really rubs me the wrong way is that after casting Lucifer from heaven, God sends him to the bowels of hell. Lucifer becomes Satan, and Hell is is new domicile. He becomes totally embittered and resentful to mankind and God alike and decides to fuck with their existence. What really gets me is that why would God, who supposedly cares for mankind, allow an evil force to gamble with their lives? What, to prove that man would chose Good over Evil? So the countless lives of lost souls means nothing as long as the majority still sides with God......... Egotistical does not begin to describe this manner of thinking. Not to mention down right cruel. Even though God has the power to wipe evil from existence....he chooses not to. Why? Cuz it is more amusing that way.
Not a god I will ever believe in or willingly worship.
