I'm not sure if people are just trolling or being serious by seeing this as a good thing and helping publishers to make money, as I don't see either of the two happening.
The idea in getting rid of retail is just aiming for higher profit margins, however retail is way too big share of the market for any console manufacturer to ignore.
Digital distribution is the past, present and the future, and I predict digital retail distribution being still around for a long time, even if digital online distribution would eat some of its share (notice that I really don't believe in viability of analog distribution).
