Think it is the part where you have to set up your profile first:
press the home menu and then click on the friends list icon(far left), if it tells you to setup your profile first that's what you have to do 
some1 did a video guide thing. though it is pretty straight-forward (just do ^ that)

uhm, you will need a hard-drive with an external power chord or 'dual' USB chords.
not sure how to explain.. but it is usually an extra usb cable that plugs in a 'power' (round) slot on the drive + you have the regular USB contact too.
If you have a physical computer-store that you can go to they can help you get one. just be precise about that it has to have a separate power cable (will not work otherwise)
