I forgot to mention this. It's probably THE reason I haven't completed it yet. |
I mean, adventure games are about solving puzzles and exploring; if the game just gave you a pointer to tell you where to go and made the puzzle solutions easy, it wouldn't be very satisfying. That said, good game design drops enough subtle hints that, with some thought and logic, you should be able to figure it out. It'll still require some trial and error or some dicking around to refresh your mind, but the information needs to be there.
I think the biggest piss-off for me was when I got to Ganon's tower, and you needed the fire arrows to light the torch or something. The fire arrows were not something you NEEDED to get in order to continue, and in my entire play through I never once heard of them (I knew they existed, but I didn't pursue them becuase I thought they'd be optional and I just wanted to beat the game). making an item required but not giving the player any indication of it and no hints of its requirement or location is just bad game design.
I know MANY people will 'buh buh but they teleport you to where you need to get them after a temple!' and disregard my criticism becuase tHEY know where they were and THEY have a memory of knowing they were needed, and thats great for people like that, but at its core, it was flawed design. Just becuase people figure soemthing out and it becomes public knowledge later on doesn't make the faults ignorable. Forgiveable, perhaps, but not ignorable.
