If you played OoT when it came out, you'd have it #1 always.
Honestly, anyone that says otherwise has rendered their opinion on video games obsolete.

I played it when it came out.  Didn't like it back then, either.

Played it again when it was rereleased on Gamecube.  Still couldn't finish it, becuase I got bored, and at that point Wind Waker had surpassed it in virtually every way.

Got the emulator on Wii, felt it was really aging poorly, and Twilight Princess was basically Ocarina of Time 2.0, so it was the same basic idea but better in every way.

Then, becuase I was in love with Zelda, and wanted to support the then-failing 3DS, I got it on 3DS and finally was able to complete it.  The cleaned up graphics and better controls help it along and make it feel less dated, but it only let me realize just how many gameplay issues there were.  Too many situations where you're wandering around aimlessly or the solution to a puzzle was something you wouldn't have reasonably figured out.

Ocarina of time wasn't a bad game or anything, it WAS revolutionary in its time, but it's aged poorly, and chock full of issues. Frankly, I also think it's a step down in quality from Link to the Past (which is one o f my favorite games.)  Link to the past had more dungeons and more abilities, even though Ocarina had more sidequests.  A lot of Ocarina was busy work, and going across the hyrule field felt like it took too long even on epona.  yeah, that was on purpose to make you FEEL the openness of the world they created, but it was at the expense of the gameplay, which is a huuuge shame.

I think a lot of what I dislike about Ocarina of time boils down to what is happening a lot in this thread; this deeply rooted feeling that it's the best game of all time, and it's just not.  I'm not denying its quality or importance to the game industry, but it's a stepping stone, it's not the pinnacle and I'm kind of sick of people acting like it is.
