I don't see much potential and I've had the system for five weeks now. It's Nintendo's version of a 360/PS3 ... which is great for Nintendo fans that aren't used to HD graphics, but that's about it. The Mario Chase mini-game in Nintendo Land is the one game that really uses the two screens well, but I haven't been impressed too much with any of the other uses and I simply don't think there's a lot of games you can build around this idea. I have it because I have to have one to play Nintendo's franchises. And I want to see Mario/Zelda/Metroid/DK/etc. in HD. That's it. I think it's sales are going to fall off a cliff in the next few months, just wait and see. The marketing has been terrible and the casual audience will abandon Nintendo. Wiimote was hot for 2006, this tablet screen is not on anyone's radar for 2012/13. I barely hear any of my casual game playing friends even mention this system and none of them bothered to buy one. They were going crazy for the Wii in 2006.

Basically this ^
It's not a next gen console and doesn't have the power to be anywhere close to where the next xbox and ps4 will be going. It will be the same situation as the current gen where the Wii is so underpowered it doesn't get the same ports and games as the Xbox 360 or PS3, the times where it does get the game, the Wii version is a shadow of it's former self and a complete mess.
That is the future of the Wii-U in my opinion, of course you will have your 1st party nintendo exclusives to enjoy, but if the Wii is anything to go by you'll be lucky to get more than 2 of those a year.
Also OP, you can't trust the things anyone who is in the industry says. They don't want to create un-needed hassle for themselves so generally will not slag off a new platform or company who feeds them directly, or indirectly. Quoting such people is rather shortsighted and certainly doesn't give a true impression of anything at all.
