It is strange. I have been around poor people my whole life and am now also poor, but I just do not get these people at all. Maybe it is because my Father was well off and I went to a religious private school or maybe I am just wired differently. But it seems like just to talk with poor people I have to cuss every other word or they do not understand me, you cannot talk about anything in the news because the only news some of them ( most party every night or are too poor for television) watch is Conan O'Brien at night, or they just want to complain about what people in charge of them do.
I always have to have some secret hand shake, fist pound just to say hi, or give some sort of gangster greeting just to get there attention. Then for small talk it is even worse! Who they fucked, what better minimum wage job they could have or are getting, how they are going home after work to immediately have a alcoholic beverage or do drugs. What else can I say to this. I am a single candle in a world of loud, annoying flashlights. Also it seems that if you do not like Football then you are automatically an outcast. I find myself reading newspapers just to know who is playing who so I can start any sort of meaningless conversation with these people.
Seems to be a lost cause to talk with poor people. Am I right? Do others have this problem?
Please respond whether you are a life long poor or well to do person. I would like a better understanding...of Shit and stuff. |
This is clearly anecdotal evidence. I meet plenty of poor people trying to go to college and trying hard. They got a massive hill to climb. Some sleep in there car, only to end up with massive college debt and no work. I'm not sure where you are at but it is not like that around me, yes in the gang ridden areas. I'm not sure what you consider poor but around me plenty of people are poor and they work there ass off and don't drink. I'm doing fine but I feel sorry for others. My brother in law makes about $13 hr, don't drink, does scrapping after work and my sister works. After all this, they barely make their bills and have no time to even think of college. What most don't understand is there is a sh-t load of working poor in this country. The middle class pay from the 80's would equal about 90,000 a year average including inflation. However average pay now days is around 45,000. So people used to be able to take trips, do things, they had disposable money. However you got people on the right that basically support things like, Pay me less, less insurance please, lease unions to help me get less pay, give all my money to the rich. The rich is taking us all to the bank. Back in the day you got paid for your work, today you barely get enough to survive.
