Splitting the userbase is a good argument (if this was a rational company), but it has not stopped them before, especially if you want to consider how they treat their other major IPs along with MH. Never count out Capcom to drive their IPs into the ground.

Putting it out on 4/5 consoles + cell phone game + multiple spin offs and re-releases isn't enough because there was a single handheld left without one?

You speak as though the DS was just some random, modest selling system.

Monster Hunter may very well arrive on the Vita eventually, but as the omission of a DS version proves, nothing is a certainty.
