If the Wiki numbers are from over a year ago, that means they don't include Super Mario 3D Land, Mario Kart 7, New Super Mario Bros. 2, New Super Mario Bros U and Mario Tennis Open. That's like over 21 million right there. The Wii and DS Mario's are selling very good still, all combined they'll likely reach a similar number. Don't know if the numbers include Mario & Sonic, they'll add some millions too. I think you'd be surprised if someone would do the math and add everything together from since before last holiday season.
I'll give you GTA. That's a very good franchise sales-wise. CoD has done it across many platforms with yearly iterations while Mario has one platform per game with usually one game per generation for a particular branch. Also, CoD needs to sell four times as much still if it were to match Mario. Let's see how long that'll take (not gonna happen). And the Sims? Really, there's almost as much Sims games by now than Mario games.

Sims are also on a platform with a much larger install base then Mario, which is a point you keep brining up (install base). Someone put together a list of best selling franchises. Final Fantasy might be the fairest comparison. I'ld check do it but I'm pretty lazy.
