I think if either Sony or Microsoft get a clear lead (1 year) on the other, it will be up to them to compete against Nintendo in market domination for that time period.  Once the other system comes to market, all three will equally compete.  If both come out at the same time (or a month or two difference), they'll likely have equal standing in the market.
