The best was the Super Nintendo Enternainment System primarily due to all of the content it received from third parties like Squaresoft and the fact that graphics, etc, in RPGs really pushed the graphics far beyond those on the Nintendo Entertainment System. Also it had some of the finest first party efforts in Nintendo's history including Super Metroid, A Link to the Past, Donkey Kong Country, and Yoshi's Island. I would list Super Nintendo as the third best console of all time after Playstation 1 and 2 and tied with Playstation 3.
The Super Nintendo was such an awesome console that it's still an excellent idea to pick up its successor in portable form the Gameboy Advance ( if you can get a working one at a reasonable price) just to play through some of the original classics.
