I know that by all means Prime 2 should be better than Prime 1, since it has a bigger overworld, more content, better puzzles etc. but the dark ether pissed me off. Yes, I did finish Prime 2. Unlike all the other games on my list I did´t play it again though. I really can see why most people would put it above MP1, it just did´t manage to enjoy me like the other games did^^

My biggest gripe with Metroid Prime 2 was that I found it really hard to get into.  I had a couple of starts, but was put off by several of the factors you mentioned above, before I finally got into it.  I really enjoyed it by the end but I too haven't gone back to it.
