| Mazty said: No, no & no. You completely fail to understand the Wii U's place in the market. Unlike other consoles at launch, the wii u is DIRECTLY competing against the PS3 and 360. All that can be gathered right now is that the Wii U, a new console, is being outsold BY THE COMPETITION. How the fuck you translate that into "the wii u is doing well" is completely beyond me, more so if you consider the poor performance in Europe. Not doing well =/= failure. Nice strawman bro. |
No, the Wii U is not "directly competing against the PS3 and 360", any more than the Wii was competing directly against the PS2. The Wii U is a different console. It's also supply constrained, even if it isn't selling out everywhere. It isn't POSSIBLE for the Wii U to sell as many units as the Xbox 360 in the last week, because there hasn't been that many units available on shelves.
The Wii U has just launched. It always takes time for a video game console to find its legs. Even the Wii. Every single console has had a relatively weak first holiday, compared with the following holiday. And the Wii U isn't far behind the Wii, and well beyond the PS3, which was competing with the older and cheaper, yet similarly capable 360, as you'll recall. So, despite being up against two consoles of similar power, it's performing better than either one did at launch.
The Wii U is similar in power. It is not similar in functionality. It is a different console. Each console should be taken on its own merits, and not compared with other consoles, to determine its value. And 99.9% of all people do exactly that.
You seem quite fond of accusing others of ad hominem, so I'm going to throw another classic term at you - Confirmation Bias. You seek out data points and claims that support your pre-existing opinion, and ignore all others. When others point out what you've ignored, you just repeat your original claim as though it proves it wrong, when in fact, it's quite the opposite. The Wii U is performing quite well, in a downturned economy against three popular cheaper consoles and a very popular handheld system (and the Vita :P), with a constrainment on supply and relatively little marketing (compared with the Wii). With all of those downward forces, it is still selling not far below how the Wii sold 6 years ago. And that's quite a feat. But if you restrict your attention to "it's not selling as well as the 360 and PS3 this holiday season", then of course it's going to look worse.
And no, the fact that it has some ports from 360 and PS3 prove nothing. Every platform gets ports from the previous generation at and around launch. It's how the industry works. Meanwhile, the Wii U's most notable titles are its exclusives, not the ports. And it's those that are selling very well. Take particular note of ZombiU.
