While the 360 has done terrific this gen and established itself as a household name, the probability of most hardware manufactures exceeding the original xbox in sales with a second go, especially given the fact that it was essentially cast aside and resources put to getting a successor out early, is very high I'd think. More so given that unlike Sega for example, MS could afford to take a massive hit to keep pushing it's foot in the door.

As for these percentage growth figures, I mean if you fail once at something, then succeed, the difference is obviously going to be much greater. While highlighting the success of the 360, this thread also puts a spotlight on the Xbox and just how poor it's sales were.

If a void was created after the dominance of the PS2 era, then Nintendo squeezed more into that gap this gen I suppose.

Fail?  They came second last gen.  Selling more than Nintendo did with the game cube in the US, Europe and Globally.

The attempts at underplaying what the 360 has achieved are embarrassing.

They sold 24m units, saying they came second is a bit disingenous.

No attempts to underplay the 360's acheivements. I said it has done terrific. If that's all you can latch on to you've missed my point entirely.
