While the 360 has done terrific this gen and established itself as a household name, the probability of most hardware manufactures exceeding the original xbox in sales with a second go, especially given the fact that it was essentially cast aside and resources put to getting a successor out early, is very high I'd think. More so given that unlike Sega for example, MS could afford to take a massive hit to keep pushing it's foot in the door.

As for these percentage growth figures, I mean if you fail once at something, then succeed, the difference is obviously going to be much greater. While highlighting the success of the 360, this thread also puts a spotlight on the Xbox and just how poor it's sales were.

If a void was created after the dominance of the PS2 era, then Nintendo squeezed more into that gap this gen I suppose.
