| Scoobes said: The sales tracking of PC games on VGchartz is terrible at best. You just need to look at Diablo 3 for an idea of how this works: Diablo 3 on VGChartz: http://www.vgchartz.com/game/24178/diablo-iii/ 2.76 million. Actual first week sales: 6.3 million This is sales figures direct from Blizzard, not shipments (you can't ship digital anyway). So the total for Diablo 3 on VGChartz is nearly a third of the actual first week sales. Even if you take into account the free passes to WoW players, the VGChartz total is only half of the actual first week sales. Also, digital download sales in the US and UK have actually overtaken physical sales: "The majority of sales in those regions are now digital. 51 per cent of all PC game sales were digital eight months ago in the US. Now it's going to be up to a split of nearly 60/40 in the US alone." That was in March of this year so if the trend has continued (and I see no reason why it shouldn't), a much larger proportion of sales are from digital sources. |
There's some going all digital only too.
Square-Enix has atleast in US gone DD only.
Tomb Raider, Hitman, Sleeping Dogs, are all DD only, no retail copy.
Obviously I'm just interpreting what's presented. But, Square-Enix released Deus Ex in both formats and if I recall that was there last major release for PC Hardcopy in US. Interpret that how you want to :P.
And some of the biggest money makers WoW and League of Legend (F2P) are PC only. Obviously there's certaing games like CoD, Mario, etc that have Sales advantages on consoles and probably most multiplat titles have heavier sales on consoles, but the same could be said with certain games on PC.
In reference to his unstable framerate. That's just incorrect. All my games are stable at 60FPS, or I cap it to 30FPS, for games like FarCry 3, Metro, Crysis Etc with a ~800 dollar rig. Obviously it's a bit more work than a console. But you can also determine whether you want lots of bells and whistles at a 30 FPS, or less and 120 FPS.
