The reason why Radiant Dawn is so hard is because Nintendo renamed the difficulties. In PoR, the US version had the special Maniac mode dropped. In RD, the US version had the Maniac mode renamed to Hard and the Japanese Hard version renamed as Medium.
So the medium in RD is equivalent to hard in PoR.
