spurgeonryan said: Shit! If you guys knew how many times I go through my posts to fix autofill or touch screen problems. On top of that it is not like I can just easily go to tootle on my cell to see if a word is spelled right. Its a new world. No American gives a Shit about the English language. Just like no one gives a Shit about trolls. If everyone agreed with everything life would be boring and easy. There would be no need for elections or multiple home Televisions. Because everyone agrees. |
We don't need to agree to have an intelligent conversation Ryan. You know that.
Also, I'm personally Canadian, and I care about spelling, I think it shows a level of intelligence that, for anyone capable of spelling (yes, I know you are), is an important step towards showing good will and interest in the conversation. It forsters healthy debate.
If noone gave a shit about trolls, why is this thread already at some 20 posts?
You're not seeing clearly.

I'm a horrible speller. And it has nothing to do with intelligence. Sometimes, people like me go the first 8 years of their life not hearing correctly and spell like the hear. I had speech class and everything when I was little, but the spelling never changed and my ears never truly got corrected till i was nearly 13. Even till this day i still have a hard time with spelling and spell better on a keyboard. Due mostly to mussel memory. Get me in front of a pen and it's all down hill again. So in short, spelling ability isn't directly linked to intelligence and you can see why it ticks me off a little when people confuse the two.

Of course there are exception cases. But in general, that's what it is. Is being unintelligent a bad thing even? Maybe it isn't.
But someone who IS intelligent and acts stupidly (troll) is where the problem is.
Hence, knowing how to spell and not putting the effort to is a bad practice imho.
Esp., did you miss the part where Spurge knows how to spell, and is running off a mobile? He could spell better, he isn't putting in the effort to. It's just a minor example of a much bigger problem: ie people not putting the effort to make posts that are of value and spur intelligent debate.
Of course some threads can be more light-hearted, but there needs to be a balance. At least, where there is intelligent debate, I hope people go in with a more proactive attitude, personally.

I did catch that part, but i just wanted to point out your correlation between spelling and intelligent not being true. You also have to realize this is the internet and a forum post. It's not like writing a letter or even an essay. And mobile devices kill grammar and spelling quite often. So much so that I don't normally post on them.
On topic. There's a lot of trolling on all sides. But the Vita got the bigger piece. And Wii U is starting the catch it now, but will not escalate to PSV levels of hate. I'm not sure anything can be done about it. People have opinions. Right or wrong, it would be nice if they kept quite about most of them tho.
