This is very interesting looking at the different strategies in place with MS and Sony. MS initially had a lot of exclusives initially with a number of new IPs (with the xbox) but then they kind of petered out and clearly from this MS have focussed all their new IPs on the launch of the Xbox 720. Sony on the other hand seem to have been consistently developing new IPs throughout the lifecycle of the ps3 (with fewer at the launch) which means when they release the ps4 they will likely use their existing IPs to drive sales.
This makes it a bit riskier for MS since we dont know if the new IPs will be successful or not but it will certainly be fascinating to see which tactic is more successful.
