I said temp 2013 then hold 2014 but I agree with the rest.
The "Next Gen" is now. The WiiU is there, can you see it? It's available world-wide now Sony boys.
|
I believe the next gen starts when the first one releases aka now. But the Sony guys tend to plead that it truly starts when MS and Sony follow suit. Thats cool, since 360 can easily hold out 1 more year.
|
I would say next gen has started, but this 7th gen isn't over until every console has been disontinued. 6th gen is still going until PS2 stops being made. It has sold 150 million, not 100 million which is how everyone will remember down the road. SNES beat Genesis even though it took awhile to do so and could be called "irrelevant" but that's what the numbers now show.
|
SNES beat Genesis well before PS1 released, didn't it?
But I still say: Who cares?, when talking about one console passing another when the next gen is allready underway.
The console would have "won" the long run sure, but when those consoles were current and relevant in the eyes of the gamers, who was winning at time will be more remembered IMO.

even if it sells more software too? I count every console sold in a generation. By your logic 50 million PS2s don't count. That's an awful lot of sales to discount. If a console has lasting value and can continue to sell even when superior hardware is out. I believe that speaks to its software and the lasting value of the library and that is something it deserves to be recognized for. Besides 360 got a year head start on PS3 so it's only fair to give PS3 a year after 360 disontinues to catch up or pass before we declare a winner.
|
By my logic PS2 won regardless and would have won even if by some miracle Xbox or Gamecube outsold it in 2005 or later. Thats my logic.
360 has a 90 million software gap. Bad example. This isnt about being fair. Business isnt fair.

yet you make up special rules to have 360 win

Sorry, I feel like need to jump in this conversation.Sales are sales, regardless if they are sales from 2007 or sales from 2014. In addition, the gaming generations do not have discrete boundaries. This is especially true for this generation and next generation. We're not going to see the kind of leap we saw from last gen to this gen. Thus, the 360 is beating the PS3 in this generation so far, but the PS3 will overtake it somewhere next year.
|
Now that I have to disagree with. The gap is now at 2 million and will prob be 2.5 million by years end. PS3 cant make up a 2.5 million gap in one year. Probably in first half of 2014.
|
After adjustments, the gap is now 1.9 million (according to VGC). There's no way the gap will be 2.5 million if the 360 only outsells the PS3 by 20000 like in the week ending at Dec. 1. Also, looking at next year, the difference between the amount of 360 and PS3 exclusives is astonishing. I should also mention the amount of genres the 2013 PS3 exclusives cover. It's quite possible for the PS3 to outsell the 360 in the second half of next year.
I think we should just agree to disagree. We're better off waiting for what will actually happen...
