As someone who's has had to deal with Nintendo a few times over this issue, I can tell you that you don't have to pay.

I only paid once, and that was when I spilled water on my 3DS.  My negligence, so I paid.

wait if my launch wii dies now which is like what 6.5years now and I send it to nintendo I dont have to pay ?
I doubt it ... I think its 90euro/dollar for the wii if it breaks and you send it in.
Still cheaper than a new one, but if you can get one from ebay/2nd hand its way cheaper then going for a repair.

and didnt they say the wiiu repair costs are like $185 ? dont you have to pay that after the 1 year warrenty is over ?

Nope.  If it dies, just call Nintendo, they'll ask you to send it in and they'll check it out to see what's wrong with it.  If it died due to system failure (something internal breaking, disc drive not reading discs, etc.), they'll just replace it for you.

I'm about to send in my Wii again because it has trouble reading dual-layered discs (Brawl, Xeno, Prime Trilogy).  No charge.

I was going to send in my Wii U when I thought it was defective.  Again.  No charge.

Please notice the distinction between system failure and owner negligence.
