There's your problem right there. Not only are most investors not all that smart but very, very, very few actually research the companies or the mutual fund (collection of stocks) they are investing in. Most get their advice 3rd party (personal investment advice, mainstream news, other investors.
Go ask a tech investor anything about the company they invest in, 99% of the time they'd be lucky to quote anything more than the About page on their web site.

I work in this environment and it is 100% true. Thats why it is always good to buy stock on a field you know, as there is a good chance you know more than the general market does. Hence I made over 60% on my Nokia shares recently.

I know it's off topic but how do those investors keep their jobs? Do they just get lucky?!
