Don't you think that the 3DS gets a point for being fully backwards compatible with the DS? Well, for someone who doesn't have a DS.
Anyway, I think if someone can get both, then getting both would be the easiest way.

yes that's a good point, many PSP owners were disgruntlesd at the fact the the PSV had no backwards compatability for hard copies of PSP games, also that Sony didn't offer that "buy PSP games for UBER cheap" outside Japan
I can only say from my perspective that when I got my 3DS I still had my DSI so it wasn't a real selling point for getting my 3DS(and same for the Vita)
