GameCube actually had a very solid launch. The XBox had a *great* launch, considering it was a new system, but that was largely buoyed by having Halo.

I wouldn't be shocked if the Wii U performed similarily to the GameCube in North America, where it sold OK, but Nintendo is stronger nowadays in Japan and especially Europe. Nintendo just basically conceeded Europe entirely during the N64/GCN days so they were really only selling in 2 markets ... well really 1 for GameCube because Japan never got into the GCN either after Smash Bros. Melee. 

Do you have any figures? And you don't seriously believe any modern day console could seriously sell less than the GC? I don't even see the Vita doing that bad unless its discontinued.
