Nintendo has positioned itself really well for the next generation.

The battle for TV will be tougher than ever for the next generation and the competition is fierce - notably Steams Big Picture (and rumored SteamBox) could have a large impact on the next generation of consoles. Big Picture really sounds like a winner, because it enables "buy once, play either with mouse/keyb (PC) or controller (TV) mode". That, combined with the regular Steam game sales and the fact that most of the 3rd party PS4/X720 games will also end on PC, makes Big Picture the biggest threat for the next generation of "HD twins".

Nintendo has an added value to it's hardware in the form of First party content - strongest of the three console makers. That content will drive the console sales, and I think Nintendo will consider purchasing IP's and quality studios in trouble to make FP content even more attractive.
