I periodically see the Wii U in stock at a variety of stores ... If I was to put numbers on it, I would say that about 20% of the time I will see a couple Wii U system's in display cases. So far, every Wii U system I have seen "out in the wild" has been the White basic system.
My guess is that (for the most part) Nintendo's supply is falling a little behind demand, more-so with the Black premium bundle, and the systems are not really staying around in one place for too long. If you really wanted to buy the White Wii U I suspect that you could probably find one within a couple hours of shopping if you were looking mid-week and didn't mind going to 5 or 10 stores (with Christmas shopping happening, I doubt you would find one on the Weekend); with the Black Wii U I suspect you would have to get to a store within a few hours of them getting a shipment.
