If the guys from Neogaf are to be believed. Sony and MS are aiming at least 10x more power than their current gen systems.

I don't think that's possible, even if they made the system cost $1,000 at this stage. Eight cores is still pretty much the high end of processing, and last I recall, The 360 has a 3 core processor, and the PS3 has an 8 core processor.  At the very best, in a dual processor system, you can run 16 cores, and that's talking about a minimum of $400 just for the processors at that point.

The factors will mostly be RAM - both video and on the mobo, which will speed things along nicely no doubt, but still won't be something dramatically better than what's already out there. The video cards, no matter how good they get, are outputting to 1080p devices. So even if Sony pushes its 2k technology, it'll fall useless on pretty much all of the market. 1080p is going to be the max we see for a while, at least for this current/upcoming generation. In essence, the gaming world has hit a bit of a glass ceiling. The extra ram and more HD storage space will be nice, as we'll see higher quality textures and smoother polys, but I don't think anything is going to have a "wow factor" like the jumps between the past generations, the technology just doesn't exist yet to make it happen.
