I currently own 4 PC's and 2 of them can play games at "max". One is an HTPC and one is a server so I'll leave those out of the picture as they are not meant for gaming...but between the two gaming PC's, the price difference vs performance is quite remarkable.
Rig 1 cost me around 1500 dollars and has 3570k, EVGA FTW quad SLI mobo, GTX 670, 8 GB RAM, 2 SSD's, H80 water cooler, full tower...etc
Rig 2 cost me 600 dollars (all Black friday sale deals) and has Phenom X4 965, budget SLI mobo, GTX 660, 8 GB ram, 180 GB SSD.
On a standard monitor with VSYNC on both offer pretty much equal performance. However on a 120 hz monitor, the 1500 dollar PC shows who is boss as it's able to offer me 100-120 fps in most games. For regular monitor users, anything over 60 is just a waste.
