Are consumers in the US still confused by the 3DS and the DS? DS sold more than the 3DS sold over the Black Friday holiday season despite the new system being out for 2 years, having backwards compatibility, and a significant price drop from launch. Maybe the DS deals were just that much better than 3DS? Are Americans blind? Explanations?

3DS: 274,389

DS: 281,747

Will there be a bunch of dissapointed kids on Christmas morning?

I think this bodes well for Nintendo long term. The 3ds is going to end up in the same situation one day. The fact that something like the ds can still sell well despite being so under powered tells me that there is still a massive market for this type of product so long as the price is right. I don't think that the existance of an ipad or ipods in a home acts a warding symbal against brining ds or 3ds systems into those homes as well. Once kids already have an ipod there is still next christmas where you can't get them an ipod again... insert a 3ds! The fact is that you can't buy your kid an ipod every Christmas and kids always get bored of what they have and want something different. Obviously there is also an adult market for this product as I bought one too. But i'm talking about the expanded market for this product which is going to be largely kids.

I know what I was a kid it didin't matter that I already had an N64 and a PS1.  I wanted a gameboy and a PC as well. And once I got those things I wanted more again.
