#34: Bioshock (2007)
Last Year: 33
Sporting one of the most (if not the most) amazing introductions in any video game ever... Bioshock takes your breath away from the very beginning. I'm getting goosebumps just thinking about it. The plane crash, swimming towards the lighthouse, Andrew Ryan's grand speech... and then the nightmare begins. Like I've said before, I'm not a huge fan of the FPS genre, but Bioshock transends genres and is just a fantastic game to play. And not only is it great on a gaming standpoint (which is of course the priority), but it also tells a story, a great story, about humanity and the corruption we're all capable of (as this game is quite anti-Randian in its message, which is always an interesting topic). And that plot twist. Oh that plot twist. The journey to that point is quite amazing... but unfortunately the game just can't keep up with that amazing pace, and starts to stumble by the end (especially with the final boss). Still, the game is amazing. One of the 7th Generations' most plesant surprises for me.
