Evolution in many species favours some % of the population spreading their genes through deception, re-leaving themselves of the responsibility of care which is passed onto the unsuspecting "parent", this is usually done by the male
Females may also play the game by finding the male with the most "maleness" (strength, risk-taking, confidence) to produce the strongest children with, but find a lesser male (secure, caring, stable) to help bring up the child
Women are hot for bastards, but settle for Mr Stable, sometimes they get the best of both for the future children
