He is right, it is all about the innovation but I just don't find WiiU very innovative.

The best things about WiiU are the ability to play off the controller when the TV is in use and the Miiverse.

Miiverse is easily duplicatable with a software update even on existing consoles.

So is the ability to play off-screen - in fact it's already done to a limited degree.   The next Xbox will probably allow it with a tablet + wired or bluetooth controller.  PS4 may allow you to stream your games to any TV/PC/Tablet in the house and still use your controller to play.   I'm speculating a bit here but this is easy for them to do.   And considering a real tablet is infintely more useful and handy than a gamepad, that will be the preferable option for most people.   Nextbox and PS4 would most likely have the horsepower to allow up to 4 people to play with tablet/controller as well, instead of the 1 (or poss 2) that WiiU allows.

So I wonder if Reggie really wants them to react to what Nintendo is doing.

Thing is, what Nintendo has brought with Wii U wasn`t present and has changed the relation we have online, out TVs and between players.
It`s not that it can`t be duplicated, or even duplicated in a better way - your example of 4 gamepads being allowed - it`s that it was Nintendo who did and it will be them who will be known to introduced it as an integral part of the Wii U. Smartglass or an option like that isn`t the same thing because it`s not part of the package and there might be lag on connecting console and external device and tv.

Move is a better product than Wii remote plus, but that didn`t help SOny because it didn`t change the essential, whilst Kinect did and that`s what helped it.

Sony and MS might do what Wii U does but if they only do it better people won`t be amazed.
