To me the Wii was liking catching lightning in a bottle. It was something completely different that captures the attention of both gamers and non-gamers. Personally, it just wasn't for me. And even though Microsoft and Sony copied the motion control idea... I don't know many owners of either system that like or use these features that much.
But the Wii U doesn't have the same hand to play. When I kept hearing that it was a big deal that you could play the games while people watch T.V. all I could think was, most people have multiple t.v.s and handheld devices now anyway. Honestly the Wii U is basically just a DS where the top screen is the T.V. And it's obvious the core gamers are being targeted by it which is a good road for Nintendo to take but most core gamers have been playing 360 and PS3 for years now. So just matching that hardware is a questionable move when new systems will launch soon.
Reggie can say "pretty pictures" don't matter but they said the same thing about HD and online infrastructure. They always say something doesn't matter then scramble to catch up later. For a company so revolutionary they sure are blind to the obvious sometimes.
I guess what I'm saying is that, in my opinion, I don't think the Wii U will really appeal to people as much as the Wii. Except for the hardcore Nintendo loyalist who will eat it up. But I can't see too many 360/PS3 gamers ditching 720/PS4.
As far as the Wii U controller goes, it is cool in theory but just having it built in to the system means developers are going to feel pressured to add gimmicky little things to it. I love both the DS and 3DS but I cringe every time some perfectly fine game asks me to pull out the stylus and draw something on the screen, or blow in the mic or tilt my system all around like a doofus. And most of the time these things subtract not add to my opinion of the game.
But I wish Nintendo all the luck in the world, just wish Reggie wouldn't say some arrogant foolish things but that's just the way he is.
