Live is fine, it doesn't "need" to give stuff away for free, the model works for Microsoft. This list can be summed up with the following:
YOU want Live to be the same as PSN+
Sonys infrastructure is weaker than live as shown by the lag complaints whenever a new multiplayer hit gets released...
