"- In Data Management, you must format the connected media drive. Note that this means you cannot use the drive with a PC"

What!? Maybe I read that wrong, am I only allowed to use the external HDD with my Wii U? I can't use the same external HDD on my PC!?

No.

This is likely a combination of Nintendo having their own storage formatting system (think NTFS and FAT32) which simply makes it unreadable by a PC that doesn't understand the formatting and a piracy prevention measure so you don't upload your games online.

PS3 does the same thing for the internal HDD.

Ok, so as long I don't download any pirated games I can still storage music, school projects and other stuff on my external HDD?
