Wouldn't a compatability layer completely abate the security benefits of having the Wii functions in a sandbox to begin with? That's like building a strong front gate and having your back yard protected by the trees. What you are describing happening on Wii is because of the poor security the Wii was given. While GC mode on Wii is sort of sandboxed, it's nothing like the sandboxing the DS and Wii modes on the 3DS and Wii U repsectively have been given. My point is that just because something similar was done on Wii, doesn't mean you can do it on Wii U. Completely different security. Adn the Wii U doesn't upscale Wii games because the Wii output was locked at 480p and because that is sandboxed outside of the Wii U system, it doesn't have access to any different render coding. And WiiConnect24 isn't the same thing as Wi-Fi Connection. WiiConnect24 was just the Wii's Internet connection in standby mode. Wi-Fi Connection is the online multiplayer system. |
My point being that if hackers (who are backfiguring everything) can add those kinds of features that nintendo neglected to on the old hardware, the only reason Nintendo didn't add the desired WiiU features is because they didn't want to.
Hackers will always try to hack, but leaving out no brainer features like wii software on the handheld screen just pushes them even harder.
