Acer just announced a new Chromebook model, the C7, a $200 laptop running Google's Chrome OS. This is cheaper than $50 of the next cheapest model, and should take more marketshare away from MSFT, from the netbook portion of the market. The advantage of a netbook is that the chips needed for just running a browser are very inexpensive, and while processing power surges ahead, the power needed to run a simple browser will grow very slightly over the years, thus ensuring that the prices for these contraptions will get cheaper over the years as die shrinks take effect.
