The original plan was for the PS3 to just have two cells and no gpu. In a last ditch effort to bring down costs they went with the current setup which causes bottlenecks. Sony for a PS4 could just make a quad cell beast but multiplat games just like this generation would look horrible in comparison for the first couple years. Only 1st party games would be able to scream next gen.
