Considering Halo 4 plays, for the most part, identically to every game before it I don't see how Reach is a failure. Though I think 343 was getting their feet wet with the franchise. They did a few changes with Halo 4, but they didn't really overhaul the gameplay mechanics. I think with Halo 5 there'll be huge changes that'll really invigorate the series.
