My friend, the gen is ending. DF says NOW MS has a shot. A SHOT! They got a shot when TLOU, God of War Ascension and Beyond is just around the corner. Clearly you dont even feel Gears had a shot seeming as you react thecway you do now. The fact that the reaction is not that of UC3s or GoW3 or UC2 in their respective years but just mentioned as a shot is laughable. Even DF states clearly that ND & SSM practically set the standard! Now they both have games next year while you somehow feel happy that 343 caught up to their 1-2 year old title with the greatest money in MS' history to support them. I think the game looks remarkable but not in the top three for me VISUALLY. Technically, aesthetically maybe! But pure visually as it is more open -> it cant compete, hence why I find Gears 3 even better looking thus why I feel the "SHOT" has already been reached with that. Jesus. |
Its like you have missed this generation altogether.
343i first project. First. Microsofts first attempt at building a game for 360 ground up for amazing production.
Microsoft on their first attempt have done this visually. It is a shame after 7 years it took for Microsoft to put a team together who had the funds and the talent to work the 360.
And no Gears lost out to Forza 4. Gears 3 looks amazing for a 3rd party engine. As does Crysis 1 and 2 on console.
Funny thing is, its more open yet maintains a high visual fidelity. Unheard of in this generation. Here another exerpt from Digital Foundry. Please tell me 343i are not geniuses in having this fidelity but twice the siz of most games.
Technologically speaking, Halo 4 doesn't put a foot wrong throughout the entire eight to nine hour campaign. The enhancements to modelling, lighting and environments are beautiful and play host to some of the most epic gunplay we've experienced on a home console title. Perhaps this is not surprising bearing in mind that the 343i tech team had the know-how and the time to push the 360 hardware further and harder than any other developer we're aware of. Factor in how key 343i staff contributed to the development of DirectX 11 (and almost certainly, the genesis of the next-gen Xbox) and we have some idea of the spectrum of talent Microsoft put to work here.
Combine that with the expert design direction and the groundbreaking technology and we have a game that genuinely impresses with the sheer magnificence of some its scenes.
You call it a shot after 7 years. I call it unbelieveable on first attempt. And the fact that its true rival Killzone 3 isnt even mentioned in the last paragraph definately means that genre for genre 360 is winning slowly.
Horizon best visuals in any racing game on console. Now Halo 4 FPS at least.
