No it means that I'm saying something which could be construed as offensive but also saying that I mean no offense, I.E. I'm kidding.

Nintendo has a perspective and the rest of us also have a perspective. What is a big deal for them (squeezing heaps of performance out of a small case) seems like a small issue for an outsider (why not just make the case 50% larger by volume and consume twice as much power). Because for core gamers the games machine is an important part of their life they don't see it as being a big deal if it was slightly larger whereas for a casual gamer having a big huge box in their TV cabinet next to their diminuitive DVD player is a huge deal.

So they compensate by trying to do the job of the latter to justify their presence/size in the living room.


There is no doubt that Nintendo has a different perspective on most things than Sony and/or Microsoft, but it would be difficult to argue that most people were more in line with Sony and Microsoft's perspective ... The big, expensive, and high energy consumption consoles that Microsoft and Sony produced in the last generation sold relatively poorly; and after they released slim versions at a lower price that used less energy their sales improved.

Nintendo may take the size, energy consumption, and cost too far in one direction but that doesn't (necessarily) mean that they're wrong in general.

Personally, I've wondered why Nintendo didn't choose to use a slot loading optical disc drive that was based on laptop drives rather than desktop drives with the Wii and Wii U; in both cases it should be able to increase the amount of space around the CPU/GPU to put on a bigger heat sink and with a moderate increase in air flow they should be able to run a modestly more powerful chip.
