Ever since the announcement of Android in 2007 I've told people that Android is going to be an incredible success. Simply because I realized the advantages that a common open source operating system for mobiles backed by a big company would bring to the customer. Back then people said I was crazy.
Now in 2012, the advantages are obvious to everyone. Android has the best list of features, most apps of all mobile platforms and by far the best value for money, especially on low-priced devices. Even an android phone below 100 Euros will offer almost the same features and capabilities (Bluetooth, WLAN, GPS, Camera, touchscreen, acceleration sensor etc.) as high-end phones, run the same apps etc., you'll primarily just have to accept compromises on things like screen resolution, speed and picture quality.
