While there are the occasional ad campaigns that make products popular that wouldn't be popular otherwise (Old Spice, Dos Equis), most successful advertising is about reducing a product to something that can be communicated in an effective way in 30 seconds ...

Although I don't know what Nintendo is really trying to communicate, I suspect they're using these commercials to emphasize people playing games on the system in a social setting (local multiplayer) and the Wii U controller being used to create new gameplay experiences; and if I am correct I think these ads are very effective.
