I think it is fairly reasonable to assume that EA knew the Wii U was going to be released 12 to 18 months ago, probably was one of the first publishers/developers approached by Nintendo, and they waited until 6 months before the release of the system to begin work on a game that would (almost certainly) be released at launch. After they bet against the Nintendo DS, Wii, and 3DS they have bet against the Wii U ... If this turns out poorly for them (as it most certainly will) the management team should be fired; but that would require investors holding the management team accountable for their poor decisions, which probably won't happen.
