Mario 64 will always be a classic. Nothing wrong with the visuals, fast gameplay, no horrible control problems, and plenty of play time!

Mario Galaxy is so good. It's great that fundamentally linear levels are thrown into a game that is designed around exploration and non-linearity, not conflicting at all!

I'll always be a Mario Sunshine person (followed closely by 64), but if linear Mario is your preference I'd point to the game that's actually designed around that, Mario 3D Land.
