Very sad story. My uncle died from diabetes and loved Star Trek (I think his favorite scene was in Star Trek IV where Bones was at the hospital and gives an elderly woman on dialysis a pill that gives her a new kidney) so I understand what it's like to watch someone go through something terrible and at least get some comfort during it.
