Sigh... you can't aim for 1080p @ 60fps. If you have that much extra power to work with, developers will beef up the graphics until it's running at 720 @ 30. They will use that power if you make it available to them.

Yeah, that's why I don't think these rumours are legit. Sony would never commucinate in those terms when explaining the power of the console to developers or when expressing what they would like to see from developers in next gen games.

I mean, the "1080p" thing could be a selling point that Sony would like to see as a target, but not the 60 frames per second, and especially not the combination of the two.

It's going to be one or the other, with a few games going for both. Which is a lot better than both being sacrificed 90% of the time.

No, dude. 60 fps is simply too expensive. COD, hacknslash and racing games will keep being 60 fps in next gen but almost no other developers will want to sacrifice graphics quality for smoothness.

Unreal Engine 4 is already here and shows the target of what most developers will want to achieve graphically, and even next gen consoles will be too weak to do it with 60fps.

1080 p remains to be seen. I think it will become the new standard but there will also be quite a few games who will want go for 720p.
