He made it work even with the horrendous writing and unplausible events that happened in the movie. I think Spielberg never really understood what made his movies so likeable. They were based on things that could actually possibly happen. Even thought they would not ofcourse. But aliens? Come on! Russians in America? To that level. Come on! Forcing snakes in the film for a laugh...ok....but not in that way. Then Spielberg missed on the jokes. Motorcycle in the library to talking with a student about 8th century horticulture was not funny. Nuclear bomb, ants making ladders out of ants, ledouche swinging on vines for miles, sword fighting on perfectly aligned cars, Marian smiling like a ledouche herself and just driving off a cliff. Harrison did not ruin the film. Spielberg and his lousy writers did. There are plenty of fresh talent in the industry these days. Let them have a swing. |
